These Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the best banana flavored cookie I have ever had. Not only are they really moist and chewy for times, but they are unmistakably banana-y.

Banana can be one of those flavors that can get lost when you bake with this. It can be really subtle flavor. It always bums me out if that happens, cause I LOVE the taste of banana. And thus does the hubs.

When great flavored banana treats come along, we go a little mad for them.

These biscuits make the list of banana items to go mad for. Without a doubt.

And they're so moist, they nearly melt in your mouth. In addition, with both banana and oats in them, they are basically healthy, right? And perfect for breakfast!

Making them is equally as simple as eating them.

You've got the usual suspects -- butter, brown sugar, white sugar, an egg, vanilla and mashed bananas. You start with mixing all those lovely ingredients together.

I must warn you. The odor of the mixture -- using the banana -- is equally intoxicating. The hubs was at the kitchen making the dough together with me (we left a deal that contained him baking with me) and we both had to work hard to not put our faces, or a straw, straight in to it.

You then add all of the ingredients (which usually means you only use one bowl yay!) And mix it all together!

To bake them, spoon about a tablespoon of dough and produce a thick disk, rather than a chunk. They spread somewhat when baking, so don't place them too close together. Bake them for about 10-12 minutes for a fine, moist cookiecutter. So yummy!

1 other thing I love about this recipe is where it came out.

My grandma (my dad's mother ) passed away in 2008. Once I started draining a lot a couple of years back, my uncle gave me her cookbook that he'd had and didn't use. I have had it on my list to create numerous her desserts ever since.

It was a custom for my grandma to make them every Christmas! She also gave everyone a big tin of these, which has been really an effort with 6 sons.

I now know exactly how much of an accomplishment it go to my site had been! My goodness. She left them using a traditional gaufrette iron that goes over a open fire. My father and I had them on the cooker. They cook very fast and you have to be precise. Too little time and they kind of disintegrated to iron. Overly long and they burned into the iron and we all needed to clean it out.

My father was pouring the batter and removing the biscuits, I had been working the ironthe hubs was time things. It took quite a few attempts to get it , but they had been so excellent! I've attempted to create them on my own and it never works. I'd like to share the recipe, however, the dang irons are so tough to discover. And pricey. At some point, I would like to just make a cookie with the exact same gaufrette flavor.

For today though, I am sharing these biscuits. I don't think I had them made thembut they are from her novel.

It's such a fun recipe book to check through, too. There are many handwritten pages, clippings and paper recipes which were taped into the book. I adore the way they used to compose recipes from the newspaper -- they'd the man who submitted it is name and cute little tales. It is so enjoyable to read ! What another time in the world!

Anyways, I don't know where this recipe came out. The newspaper looks like it was on a flier out of their square dancing class or something (they have been big into square dancing). It is undoubtedly from West Virginia, in which they lived.

In any event, I'm so happy to finally talk about a recipe out of her novel with you! I made a couple of adjustments to make them thicker and more puffier and they're delicious. There'll be more to come out of her recipe book, but for now enjoy the banana.

Banana Oatmeal Cookies


Return: 34-36 COOKIES


3/4 cup salted butter, softened (I use Challenge Butter)

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup mashed bananas

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch

3 cups old fashioned oats



2. Add flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves and cornstarch and mix until blended.

3. Stir in oats.

4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

5. Spoon tablespoons of dough on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper. Flatten dough just a little bitinto thick discs. They will spread a bit when boiled.

6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges just start to gold.
